A ceramic coating is a liquid silica or graphene-based polymer that bonds to your clear coat and cures into a hard, glass-like layer. Done properly, it is the single best thing you can do for a car that lives in Central Victoria: it blocks UV, stops bird droppings and bore-water spotting from etching the paint, sheds red dust and road grime, and keeps that freshly-detailed depth for years instead of weeks.

DJM Detailing is a certified installer for two professional coating systems — Envoke Pro Coat+ (Australian-made, 7-year nano-graphene coating, sold only to certified installers) and Angelwax (designed and manufactured in Paisley, Scotland, applied under their Certified Installer program). That matters because a coating is only as good as the prep underneath it and the hands applying it. We don't skip the paint correction, we don't rush the flash times, and we don't apply over defects you'll be stuck looking at for seven years.

Every coating is applied indoors at our Spring Gully studio, ten minutes from the Bendigo CBD. That matters more than most people realise: a coating needs a clean, dust-free panel, stable temperature and controlled light to be levelled properly and to cure without contamination. A driveway can't give you that — a studio can.

What a DJM ceramic coating includes

  • Full decontamination wash — pre-rinse, snow foam, two-bucket contact wash, iron fallout remover, tar remover and clay treatment
  • Paint inspection under high-CRI lighting with paint depth readings before any machine work
  • Single or multi-stage paint correction to remove swirls, wash marring, light scratches and oxidation
  • Panel wipe / IPA prep so the coating bonds to bare clear coat, not polish oils
  • Coating applied panel by panel, levelled and inspected for high spots under lighting, then infrared-cured
  • Wheels faces, glass and exterior plastics coated on request (we recommend wheels — it makes brake dust a two-minute job)
  • Aftercare pack and a written maintenance guide so you keep the warranty intact
  • Follow-up check and a first maintenance wash recommendation at 2–4 weeks once fully cured

Why the prep matters more than the bottle

Every coating brand will show you a water-beading video. What they won't show you is the 80% of the job that happens before the coating ever comes out of the box. A ceramic coating locks in whatever is underneath it. If a car is coated over swirl marks, holograms or embedded iron fallout, those defects are now sealed under a hard layer for three to five years — and removing them later means polishing the coating off and starting again.

That's why every DJM ceramic job starts with a proper chemical decontamination and a paint-correction stage matched to the car. A near-new vehicle straight from the dealership often needs only a light single-stage polish to remove the dealer's wash marks (yes, they're almost always there). A five-year-old daily driver that's been through brush car washes usually needs a two-stage correction — a cutting compound to level the defects and a finishing polish to bring back clarity. We measure paint thickness first so we know exactly how much clear coat we're working with, and we show you the before-and-after under lights on the car before coating.

The coatings themselves are chosen for the job. Envoke Pro Coat+ is the top of the Envoke range: next-generation nano-graphene platelet chemistry rated for 7 years, with superior resistance to UV, water spotting and chemical fallout — a real advantage around Bendigo where tank and bore water is common and summer evaporation is fast. It's reserved for certified installers and we infrared-cure it after levelling, which is exactly why it goes on in the studio and not in a driveway. Angelwax's Enigma professional coatings, made in Paisley, Scotland, give outstanding gloss and slickness and are backed by the Angelwax Coating Promise, which is only honoured when a Certified Installer does the work. Either way you get the manufacturer's full durability rating, not the cut-down numbers on consumer kits.

What affects the price of a ceramic coating

We quote every job individually rather than publishing a one-size price, because these are the things that actually move it:

  • Vehicle size — a Hilux or a 200 Series has a lot more panel than a Mazda 3
  • Paint condition and the level of correction required (single vs multi-stage)
  • Coating package — Envoke Pro Coat+ (7-year graphene) or Angelwax Enigma professional, and the number of layers
  • Extras: wheels off and coated, glass coating, trim restoration, interior fabric/leather protection
  • Colour — black and dark metallics show every defect and take longer to correct to a flawless finish

Send us the vehicle, suburb and a photo or two and we'll give you a fixed price — no obligation.

Good for

  • New cars — protect it before the first bad wash
  • Dark-coloured vehicles that swirl easily
  • 4WDs and utes that see dust, mud and bore water
  • Tradie vehicles and fleets you want to keep presentable with minimal effort
  • Caravans, boats and trucks (see our dedicated pages)

Ceramic Coating questions

How long does a ceramic coating last in Bendigo?

Envoke Pro Coat+ is rated for 7 years and has over 7 years of proven protection in Australian conditions. Angelwax Enigma professional coatings carry multi-year ratings. Central Victoria's strong UV, dust and tank-water spotting are exactly what these coatings are built for — longevity mostly comes down to washing the car properly and not using brush washes.

Is ceramic coating worth it compared to wax?

A good wax lasts weeks to a couple of months. A professional ceramic coating lasts years, is far harder, resists chemicals and UV, and makes washing dramatically easier. If you plan to keep the car more than a year, it is cheaper per month than waxing and the car will look better the whole time.

Will ceramic coating stop stone chips and scratches?

No. A coating adds hardness and resists wash marring and light scuffs, but it is microns thick — it will not stop stone chips or key scratches. If you want impact protection on the front end, paint protection film is the answer; a coating can go over the top of it.

How long will you need my car?

A typical coating with single-stage correction is one full day — drop it in the morning, collect it late afternoon or the next morning. A full multi-stage correction plus coating usually runs into a second day. We keep the car indoors overnight so the coating gets its first hours of cure in a stable, dust-free environment, which is one of the real advantages of a studio over a driveway.

Can you ceramic coat a car that's a few years old?

Absolutely, and those are often the most satisfying jobs. We correct the paint first so you're sealing in a corrected finish, not old swirls. Oxidised or faded paint can usually be brought back a long way before coating.

How do I look after a ceramic coated car?

Avoid washing for the first 7 days while it cures. After that, a pH-neutral shampoo, two-bucket hand wash every 2–4 weeks, and a ceramic top-up spray every few months is all it needs. Never use automatic brush washes. We give you a written guide and can set you up on a maintenance plan.

Can you ceramic coat a unicorn?

Technically yes, but they're very hard to find. Rumour has it one lives on our home page and only comes out when something gets a really good polish. If it does, it shouts you 10% off.
