The cause
Your van's roof collects dust, pollen, soot and — on fibreglass and aluminium — the chalky oxidation the sun creates. When it rains, that mix washes down the walls, concentrates under every seam, window and awning rail, and dries in a dark streak. The streaks are a roof problem that shows up on the walls.
Why they keep coming back
Oxidised fibreglass and composite walls are porous, so the streaks grip. And unless the roof is cleaned, the next shower starts the process again. Black streak removers work, but they're treating the symptom.
The permanent fix
Clean the roof first. Then polish the walls to remove the oxidation and restore a smooth, sealed surface. Then ceramic coat the whole exterior. A coated van is hydrophobic — water sheets off carrying the dirt with it instead of leaving it behind. Owners who coat their van go from scrubbing to rinsing, and the roof clean becomes a quick job rather than a wrestle. We do all three steps at our Spring Gully studio, with the right equipment for roof access and the right (non-scratching) products for acrylic windows and hatches.
