Detail before you photograph
The photos are the sale. A car with glossy paint, clear headlights, clean wheels and a spotless interior gets more clicks, more enquiries and fewer lowball offers. Do the detail one to three days before shooting so it's at its best and still fresh for inspections. Pay particular attention to the things buyers use to negotiate: headlights, wheels, swirl marks in the sun, smells, and the boot.
Where and when to shoot around Bendigo
Shoot in the hour after sunrise or before sunset — soft, low light shows paint depth and hides nothing you'd want hidden. Avoid midday sun, which blows out highlights and shows every swirl. Pick a clean, uncluttered background: an empty section of car park, a quiet street with a plain wall, or a park edge. Lake Weeroona and the Botanic Gardens are popular for a reason, just avoid parking on grass. Shoot from a low angle at the front three-quarter, then the full set: both sides, rear three-quarter, interior front and rear, dash with the ignition on (showing the kilometres), boot, engine bay, wheels and any damage honestly.
The listing
Lead with the facts buyers scan for: year, model, kilometres, service history, roadworthy status, registration expiry. Mention recent work — tyres, brakes, timing belt, and yes, 'professionally detailed'. Be honest about flaws; it builds trust and filters time-wasters. Price realistically against the current market, with a little room to move, and respond to messages quickly — the first 48 hours are when most of the serious buyers are looking.
